This garden is for a family living in a rural setting. The owners wanted a complete re-design of the existing rear garden, turning it from a space which was essentially unused into one which could be used during the day and night. They particularly wanted a large entertaining area with space for; a seating/ dinning, outdoor kitchen and hot tub. In addition a good sized lawn was required along with planting borders. Finally screening along the back boundary was another key requirement. In the front garden an entertaining space was required.
A contemporary design was produced which was reflected in the strong lines of the different areas as well as in the selection of plants. Composite decking was used for the main entertaining areas, providing a low maintenance option. Low brick walls were also included to harmonise with the existing paving and house. Brick was also used as edging around the entertaining areas.
Planting borders were re-shaped, the strong lines were softened with the selection of plants which included box balls, multi stemmed trees and shrubs, with ornamental grasses and perennials providing all year round interest. Groups of trees which included Holm Oak provided the necessary screening along the back boundary.
Lighting was introduced highlighting features such as the multi-stemmed feature trees, thus extending the use of the garden into the evening.
In the front garden, a raised composite decked seating area with gazebo was created with stone walls to match the stone used in the house and existing garden walls. Brick coping and edging for the steps was also included. In addition, a contemporary water feature was also created.
