This large garden in the Staffordshire countryside consisted mainly of lawn and a number mature trees with very little to entice the owners out into the garden. The clients, a couple with grown up children, wanted to transform their large garden into an entertaining space with different areas of interest. They particularly wanted a large covered entertaining space away from the house which would provide space for; an outdoor kitchen, fireplace, seating and dinning area. A naturalistic pond with bridge was also required along with a kitchen garden. An additional terrace area outside the existing indoor pool was another key requirement, allowing views out into the rural landscape to be enjoyed. Changes were also required to the existing main terrace area.
Andrew Jordan created a contemporary design which made full use of the garden. An oak framed tiled roofed outbuilding provides the main entertaining space. Resin bound paths and timber walkways connect the outbuilding to the house and to the others areas of the garden. A pond with composite decked boardwalk and bridge leading to a “floating” summerhouse provides a key focal point in the corner of the garden. New terrace areas using grey contemporary porcelain paving have been proposed for around the house and outside the indoor swimming pool. A contemporary designed pergola walkway leads out into the paddock beyond the main garden. A kitchen garden with raised oak sleeper beds and potting shed has also been proposed along with re-designed paths and planting borders in the front garden. With suitable garden lighting, the garden will be transformed into the perfect place to entertain throughout the year.
Construction of the garden will begin in 2018.
