The clients, a young couple working in the creative arts, are keen naturalists and are extremely well travelled in Britain, Europe and Worldwide. They are relatively new to gardening and wanted a design that celebrates plants and planting styles.
The style is Mediterranean, to remind the clients of previous travels, allowing for escapism from the surrounding suburban landscape.
The design seeks to bring the clients into the space through the structural elements and planting selection. A water spout and rill introduces a relaxing atmosphere while at the same time attracting wildlife into the garden.
Plants from around the world, with a preference for a Mediterranean climate have been mixed in a palette of yellows, pinks, blues and violets. The taxus columns and balls with their European influence soften the hard landscaping. There is a range of shapes and sizes that have been mixed together to provide a strong visual impact.
A pebbled path, edging to the walls and a feature mosiac wall bring artistic character to the garden, and a source of creative inspiration.
