Large Contemporary Entertaining Garden in Bristol

THE BRIEF

This large garden in Bristol had an uninteresting terrace area and water feature, while the rest of the garden consisted of a large lawn with mature tree and shrubs. The owners wanted to transform their garden into an entertaining space which they could enjoy throughout the year with friends and family. They particularly wanted an outdoor kitchen with space for seating (sofas) and dinning, along with a sunken fire pit and swimming pool.

THE DESIGN

Andrew Jordan created a contemporary design with a large paved space for entertaining that wraps around the house and leads up to the new swimming pool area. Contemporary grey porcelain paving is used throughout, which is broken up with the introduction of composite decking, as a path and also for the sunken fire pit seating area. A contemporary water feature and rill with stepping stones and floating island with feature tree acts as a focal point which can be enjoyed from inside as well as outside of the house. A spacious outdoor kitchen has also been included, this sits under a sedum roof with posts clad using composite decking. The sunken fire pit area is clad with the same composite material to compliment the other areas. Level changes within the main entertaining area add another dimension. The swimming pool area includes; a large pool, two dipping/ seating pools and a hot tub. The hot tub sits under a pergola which has been clad with composite decking. Garden lighting, including uplighters on trees, strip lights around the rill and step lighting transforms the garden into the perfect place to entertain throughout the year. Construction was completed in 2019 along with planting up the newly created planting borders. Low maintenance evergreens have been included providing shape and interest throughout the seasons, perennials and bulbs add colour.
